Music production question?

when i study/major in music production in college,will they teach me music composition?

actually, i'm thinking no. And music theory is not music composition. Certainly, composing requires a very healthy knowledge of theory, but they are very distinct majors. You can get a PhD in music composition or one in music theory: very separate concentrations.



Production will probably involve a lot of music technology courses...recording engineering, computer programs (including the typical composition tools like finale, reason, sibelius, etc)...so id expect you to get some exposure to composition, but you won't necessarily be "taught" theory.



Of course, there's no reason why you wouldn't be allowed to take composition classes even if they aren't part of your core curriculum.
