Why Do I Like Old Country Music and Not Like New Country Music?

With the exception of Allison Krause and maybe a few others, modern country music turns me off completely, particularly Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and Gretchen Wilson (although she is a looker). I guess I have just really like the sounds that guys like Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, George Jones and Johnny Cash created or performed. And I love Patsy Cline's voice and the music in her songs. It seems like Country music these days is radically different, the way that soul music these days is not what it was in the 60's, 70's and even early 80's. Does anyone feel this way? Is there something lacking? Has it gotten watered down? Am I wrong about this? Answers are welcome.

Not a fan of country music, but I totally understand what your are saying. Where I grew up country music was prominent, I can remember hearing songs by Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Tammy Wynette, as well as Charley Pride, Charlie Rich, and others of that ilk.

I think what has happened is that many country artists are more interested in crossing into mainstream music that they lost some of the quality that made true country %26amp; western music popular. In short, a lot of today's country has lost its "twang".

Just as true R%26amp;B has lost its soulfulness with the advent of rap/hip-hop. Suddenly, no one was singing about being in love, not even of making love, suddenly it was all about porn (nice way to say what they actually sing about) and how much cash, money, cars, and jewelry they have.

It's really no wonder that oldies stations are so popular!

I HATE COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!! it just a bunch on hicks getting together on a friday night drunk as hell while play a guitar and talking all weird.
You see today people like to blend different genres together.Country music today is not realy country its been blended so much.Today it ismore classic rock sounding like Montgomery Gentry and Keith Urban.
I don't know how it is with you but with me I grew up in the 80's and that seems to be the country music I listen to. Like you I only like some of the new artest. So I think it is whatever era of music first influenced you is what we tend to listen to. I seems also that now the country and pop line seem to be bluring a bit. I've even have been listening to bluegrasss more and more now
